6/4/2023 0 Comments Snk neo geo![]() The video said it's basically the arcade board and carts of a different size. ![]() There's not really a distributor save for going to then.ĪES is obviously a different beast. In the US it was a little weird back then, I remember going to and ordering either KOF 2001 or 2002 (I hope it was 2002 because 2001 was horrible) for the arcade I frequented. So MVS games are mostly cheaper because lots of arcade owners then had MVS carts. And even better with the 2/4/6 slot MVS, just one board and you plug in multiple game carts on it, and when it's not played there's a switch game button to let you switch to another game in seconds. This helps them save costs - you just need the base board and then buy carts, plug them in and switch them as needed. Though at the time it was a pretty cool thing, for arcade owners, the MVS was pretty much a godsend, you just have the MVS arcade board, buy a cartridge of the game and slap it on the board kinda like a console from the time. It's too expensive of a hobby to get into when emulation (cue good old NeoRageX days) or even official SNK releases of old games are mostly pretty good. Thanks MVG.Īs much as an SNK fan I am I don't really have a Neo Geo of any sort (nor do I plan to). Nice little look back into the Neo Geo systems. (I'm looking for it)Įdit: walp, my google-fu tells me it's entirely paywall-locked, but for anyone already on that patreon, it's a post labeled "Nerdy stuff about NeoGeo sprites". There's a really good breakdown on that GPU by Furrtek, the developer that basically reverse-engineered ASIC sources for all of the Neo Geo's chips, but it might only be available on their patreon. As a result, while it looked like a machine ahead of its time, it could not have managed a port of Wolfenstein 3D without some major space-intensive fuckery, like possibly animating the perspective range of every wall sprite. It used sprites for everything, but had a per-scanline limit of 96 sprites. Hence why the sprites in Art of Fighting were so bloody huge, and why characters never had that blocky, zoomed-in look. It wasn't actually a scaler in the traditional sense. It's crazy how much (well-made) smoke and mirrors was in that graphics chip. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
